Nonlinear Dynamics is a study about systems that evolve over time. In order to predict their future behaviour we use mathematical modelling and computer simulation due to the complexity of dynamical systems. These chaotic dynamical systems are governed by a rule that determines their future, but they are characterised by having a complex behaviour.
The research group at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos predominantly works on basic and fundamental aspects ,"We are concerned with basic and fundamental aspects such as mathematical modeling and computer simulation."
The research lines of the department are based on this vision. |

Since the mid-twentieth century the new concept of chaos has swept the world of science, covering both the most basic sciences such as physics and mathematics, as the more applied sciences, among which include social sciences. Linked to this concept is the concept of complexity, although it has several meanings, may be summarized briefly as it relates to systems where "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." The research fields open two new ideas are huge and encompass many disciplines. In fact, the science of complex systems provides an excellent framework for interdisciplinary research, since that science gives us tools that can be used to address various issues of interest in several branches of science and engineering.
